A head injury cuts short John Eyre’s career as an oil rig diver and his romance with Rachel.

Big, damaged and psychically sensitive, John roams Central America, where he is beguiled by Maximon, a trickster god.

When the mask confining the god is stolen and a village asks John to find their protective spirit, he embarks on the riskiest of adventures.
